July 2010Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce's Stockport Council met for the first time under their new format on Friday 9th. The group discussed how they can broaden the membership of the Council to ensure a better representation of the various sectors within the Stockport membership. Dave Golding from Stockport College gave an update on the progress that the College have made in a new venture to make it easier for employers in the borough to take advantage of the benefits offered by taking on an Apprentice. The council is keen to lend its weight to this excellent scheme and is keen to speak to any company that has a positive experience of taking on an apprentice. Finally Sue Souter of Souters raised some interesting points around helping businesses take advantage of the opportunities offered by the Olympics. We will be looking into this and hopefully will have more information soon.
