Following demand from businesses, two last-minute categories have been added to this year's Wigan Business Awards. Start-up Business of the Year and Social Enterprise of the Year have been added to the awards for 2010. Start-up Business of the Year 2010, sponsored by Blue Orchid recognises the achievements of a Wigan-based business in any sector which has been trading for less than two years as at the end of August. Social Enterprise of the Year, the other last minute addition, recognises the important work done by these businesses and is open to all social enterprises based in Wigan, working in public service or commercial markets. Commenting on the inclusion of these categories, Miranda Barker, Wigan President of Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, said: "The last minute additions ensure that there is truly something for everyone in terms of this year's categories, as well as acknowledging the importance of Social Enterprises and Start-up Businesses to the Wigan economy. The deadline for both of these awards will be 26 August. Short listed entrants will be invited to meet the panel of judges and will also gain significant publicity via the event programme and local press in the run up to the event. Dates for Your DiaryOur programme of networking events around the regions will continue into 2010. If networking is important for your business, make sure you keep up to date with the events by checking our events calendar.
Other dates: On the 25th August in the evening there is a seminar on the LEAD management training sceme. On 15th October there is a Wigan Business Expo at the DW Stadium. For Leigh businesses there will be a Leigh Business Forun on Friday 24th September.
