Manchester Local Activity

Whilst the majority of Chamber events and other activities happen in or close to the city centre there is still a focus on local Manchester activity.

There is a series of Action for Business Forums which are free to Chamber members. Click here for details. The Forums are a great networking opportunity for businesses to get to know each other, learn about key issues impacting on the business environment and give their views about the critical topics of the day.

The Forums are held usually at Cloud 23 at the Hilton Hotel and are hosted by the Manchester President, Wayne Brophy, Managing Director of Cast UK.

Wayne is supported by a small group of Manchester-based businesspeople, to agree themes for the Forums and ensure that all of Manchester’s issues are considered by the Chamber’s Policy and Campaign Committee and main Chamber Council.

The key issues being raised by businesses in Manchester are:

  • Understanding the plans for development and regeneration around Manchester including the city centre and Airport City with a focus on improving the business environment;

  • Improving the opportunities for young people and improving the access to skills training to support the key industries particularly creative and digital industries, engineering and manufacturing and professional services;

  • Explaining and improving the opportunities for businesses to export, particularly to growing economies like China;

  • Exploring the opportunities to improve transport and travel around the city centre and the region.

There is regular engagement with key stakeholders across the city including Manchester City Council, schools, colleges and universities, local MPs, and businesses big and small.

The key Chamber members of staff for Manchester are Regional Membership Managers Philip Murphy and Richard Crossland
