Manchester based law firm Browne Jacobson has announced Bolton Lads & Girls Club (pictured) as its charity for 2017-18.

Bolton Lads & Girls Club was established in 1889 when the UK was experiencing great industrial and social change. It was initially set up in order to protect the rights and safety of children and young people who were working long hours in the cotton mills.

Since that time, the organisation has developed into a youth support club, giving local children and young people a safe haven to go – where they can spend their free time interacting with others through inclusive recreational activities including performing arts and sports. The club also offers intensive support, guidance and training for some of the area’s most at risk children and young people through mentoring sessions.

Bolton Lads & Girls Club is one of the largest youth clubs in the UK, with over 4000 members ranging from ages 8 – 19 and up to 21 for young people with disabilities supported by over 200 volunteers. Past members have included former WBA Super and IBF Light Welterweight Champion Amir Khan.

Every year, each of Browne Jacobson’s five offices nominates a charity to support in their area and last year the firm raised over £18k for good causes across its five office network.

Kelly McFadden, Events & Community Fundraising Manager at the charity, said:

“ I would like to thank Browne Jacobson for choosing us as their local charity of the year.

“The club is a real lifeline to many of our members so we are very grateful to have Browne Jacobson on board helping to promote our club’s ethos through some really exciting fundraising activities and events taking place over the next year.”

Nichola Evans, Manchester Partner at Browne Jacobson added:

“As a firm, we are fully committed to supporting and working with worthy causes that benefit the local communities we serve, so I am delighted to announce our partnering with Bolton Lads & Girls Club.

“We are looking forward to helping to raise the profile of the club and shining a spotlight on the fantastic work they do and the positive message they are sending out to young people.”
