The Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce is pleased to welcome you to our next Engineering and Manufacturing Forum kindly sponsored by Nybble.

The quarterly forum promises to continue to provide a platform for organisations in the Engineering & Manufacturing community to share knowledge, build connections and liaise with experts in the field.

Join us for our next Engineering & Manufacturing Forum where we will explore the key issues, challenges and policy developments impacting the sector today. This Forum is designed to provide a platform for members to discuss critical topics and identify strategies to address these challenges collectively.

The event will be hosted by Wayne Jones, Founder & CEO at Improbus Consultancy Limited.
Wayne was born in Manchester in 1966 and graduated with an Honours Degree in
Mechanical Engineering in 1992 from Stockport College of Technology on a day release
program. Prior to his Academic qualification, he completed a 4-year Apprenticeship that
later inspired some of his Leadership and Corporate and Social Responsibility philosophies.
He has been employed in the Manufacturing Industry for more than 30 years, holding
various positions in Sales, Project Management, Operations, After Sales Engineering and
R&D. He has resided in Norway, UAE and Oman.

Our speakers will include;

  • Chris Fletcher, Greater Manchester Chamber's Policy & GMLSIP Director
  • Jonathan Hoole, Managing Director of Kane International
  • Fiona McGarry, Sector Engagement Manager at Enginuity
  • Sarah Black-Smith, Motion Control & Sustainability Lead of Siemens Digital

Jonathan Hoole is Managing Director of KANE International
A British company that manufacturers flue gas & engine exhaust analysers. He holds degrees in Mechanical Engineering with Electronics from Brunel University, MBA from the University of Hull and Masters in Lean Management from CUOA, a leading Italian business school.

After graduation Jonathan worked in Italy for 10 years with Marelli Motori, gaining valuable manufacturing experience, especially in the application of Lean thinking. After returning to the UK he became Operations Director for Exol Lubricants then KANE International. Jonathan was appointed Managing Director in 2019.

Jonathan is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers. He also mentors undergraduates from underrepresented backgrounds on the Brunel Professional Mentoring Scheme.

Fiona McGarry, Sector Engagement Manager at Enginuity

Fiona has worked in the Manufacturing and Engineering sector for nearly twenty years, previously managing the national school’s engagement programme at Jaguar Land Rover for 12 years. During this time she launched the Young Women in the Know initiative which had a real impact on increasing female apprentices joining JLR. Then Fiona moved to Make UK for nearly seven years managing their engagement around Next Gen, focussing on raising the profile of the sector and attracting new talent. Fiona has very recently joined Enginuity where she wants to have impact in supporting solutions for the skills challenges of the sector.

Her passion is increasing diversity within STEM and developing programmes and activities to attract more diverse young people to the sector and the apprenticeship route. At Make UK she was able to change the focus from just year 11 engagement to include all secondary and primary schools. Creating a dedicated STEM space enabling visits throughout the year to the Technology Hub. Fiona has delivered numerous webinars, talks and podcasts on how to engage with Gen Z and Gen Alpha so they are aware of the variety of opportunities and routes into the Manufacturing and Engineering sector. Embracing social media, engaging with your local schools and utilising relatable role models within your business are the key wins
