The Chamber has been saddened to hear of the passing of former President Keith Johnston after a long illness.

Keith was Chamber President 2006 – 2007 and had a long and successful career with Addleshaw Goddard in Manchester before moving to London. He was a staunch supporter of the Chamber, and played an important role both as President and also as a Board Director. Following his move to London he took up a position on the British Chambers of Commerce Board.

Chris Fletcher, Policy Director, said: “When I became Policy Director at the Chamber, Keith was the first President that I worked closely with in the role. We used to spend quite a lot of time together discussing and briefing on issues, looking at what activity needed doing and preparing for Chamber Assembly and other events. Being a keen lawyer Keith always came up with a different way to look at  issues and he certainly kept you on your toes. He also had a great sense of humour, quite dry at times but could always search out and find the funnier side of things.

"He played a huge role in getting the Chamber to where it is now and following his move to London this was recognised as Keith was given Honorary Life Membership of the Chamber. He will be very much missed, he left a great impression on people who met him and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.”
