On June 5th and 6th 2024, the UK and Normandy commemorated the 80th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy. D-Day (June 6th 1944) was a pivotal World War II operation where Allied forces launched an invasion on the beaches of Normandy. This operation marked the start of France's liberation and the eventual defeat of Nazi Germany.

As part of the celebrations, three Spitfires - iconic British fighter aircraft that provided crucial air support during the invasion - were featured. These were provided by the Lytham St Annes Spitfire Display Team

To transport the planes from St Annes to Ouisterham in France, the team received support from Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce to understand the new requirements following the UK leaving the European Union and the process to apply for an ATA Carnet. An ATA Carnet is an international customs document that allows the temporary importation of goods without incurring duties and taxes or having to complete local paperwork therefore saving time, money and resources. UK traders must get ATA Carnets when temporarily taking goods to the EU for a trade show/exhibition, for professional equipment or when taking commercial samples.

We love hearing your stories of how our ATA Carnets are used around the world! If you’ve got a story you’d like to share, please email us your pictures and feedback to international@gmchamber.co.uk.
