Company: University of Salford

I am pleased to announce to you all that we have made an appointment into the role of PVC Dean of Salford Business School.

Professor Katy Mason will join the team on the 1 December. Katy joins us from Lancaster University Management School, where she is currently Professor of Markets and Management, and was the Associate Dean for Research from 2020-2023.

Katy's expertise lies in the making and shaping of moral markets. Making moral markets is a particular form of open and collaborative innovation, that aims to co-design markets for the good of people and the planet.

Katy has worked with organisations such as Rolls-Royce, Microsoft, Stevenage Bioscience Catalyst, the Cabinet Office and North Yorkshire County Council. Her research is generating insights into how market factors can effectively work across organisational boundaries to collaboratively co-design real-world solutions, making accessible, (re)usable, and valuable innovative goods and services.

Before entering academia, Katy worked as Marketing Executive for a number of blue-chip companies. She is currently President of the British Academy of Management, Fellow of the British Academy of Management, Fellow of the Academy of Social Science, Cabinet Office Policy Fellow and Chartered Companion of the Chartered Management Institute.

I am sure you will join me in congratulating Katy on this appointment when she joins us later this year and wish her well in the new role. I would also like to share my personal thanks to Liz Larner for her work as Interim PVC Dean during this time. Liz will remain in the interim role until Katy takes up her post in December. Liz will then return to her post as Deputy Dean.
