A new defibrillator has been installed at Abbotsfield Park, known locally as Chasen Park, adding to the network of life-saving equipment in the area.
Chassen Park welcomes a large number of guests, especially on Sundays, when the Urmston & District Model Engineering Society (UDMES) open up their ride-on-trains to the public. Friends of Chassen Park had been fundraising for a defibrillator when a local resident and business owner realised and offered to support the project.
A significant step toward public safety, the defibrillator is now part of the park’s emergency response resources. Defibrillators increase survival rates from cardiac arrest from 5% to an impressive 50% to 70%. The defibrillator was donated by local business Energy Gain UK based in Trafford Park.
Craig Jones, Managing Director of Energy Gain UK, commented: “Living local and visiting the park regularly I’ve seen first-hand the great work local community group “The Friends of Chassen Park” have done to improve the public space. They do this at no cost and commit their own time for the betterment of the wider community. When I found out they were raising funds for a defibrillator, I instantly wanted to support the group.
"A big thank you to Rachel from “The Friends of Chassen Park” and the UDMES for supporting and making the project happen. In the crucial minutes during a cardiac arrest, it is vital that a defibrillator can be accessed quickly. With a growing number of guests the defibrillator may one day save someone’s life.”
Friends of Chassen Park, commented: “We have always wanted to get a defibrillator installed at Chassen Park as it is a vital piece of equipment which saves lives. This has now been made possible for our community thanks to Energy Gain UK Ltd.”
The miniature railway at Chassen has been in operation since 1948. It is with great thanks to the society for allowing the defibrillator to be installed on their building, ensuring quick and easy access in emergencies.
Urmston & District Model Engineering Society, commented: “We are proud to house the defibrillator on our wall and hope that no one has to use it!”
