NW Hearts Charity are thrilled to announce that they have awarded a generous £7,000 grant to the Acute Coronary Care Unit at Wythenshawe Hospital as part of its commitment to improve the health and well-being of people living with heart disease across Greater Manchester.

The funding will enable an area, currently an unloved concrete space, to be transformed with an array of aromatic herbs, beautiful blooms and a seating area. It will be used by in-patients and their family and friends. The garden will also be a welcome tranquil space for staff on the unit to enjoy a few minutes of fresh air as part of their busy shifts.

Sue Martin, Operations Manager at NW Hearts Charity said “We are delighted to have been able to facilitate the development of this much desired venture. This project aligns perfectly with our mission and is one of several projects funded by us this year. Our grants programme will re-open in the summer and we welcome applications from hospital staff, health and social care providers and community groups which have a desire to improve services, facilities, equipment and education relating to cardiac services within Greater Manchester, over and above what the NHS can provide”.

Emma Byers, Ward manager of the Acute Coronary Care Unit said ‘As a unit, we are extremely grateful to NW Hearts Charity for awarding us this grant. Due to the nature of our clinical area, we look after critically unwell patients, therefore an outside space for both patients, relatives and staff to take a breather from the stresses of the day would be gratefully appreciated. We are looking forward to the work commencing next month, and seeing the area become a calming space for all to enjoy.’

NW Hearts Charity would like to thank their supporters who helped make this grant possible.

They rely on the generosity of fundraisers, donations and corporate partnerships to help them fund projects to improve the lives of people living with heart disease in Greater Manchester.
