Michael Howard recently gave a talk on the life and work of Wigan-born artist Theodore Major. His book on Major: 'Walking on Fire' is due to appear next year. Major is best known for his powerful and gritty portrayals of Northern England, his work captures the raw beauty of industrial landscapes and the emotional depth of working-class life.

Michael, a respected expert in British art, explored the influences behind Major’s evocative style and his place within the broader art movement of the 20th century. This event was a rare opportunity to gain insight into one of the North’s most compelling yet underappreciated artists.

Michael has also delivered a public lecture at Manchester Metropolitan University 'Birth of an Artist: L.S. Lowry and Manchester School of Art' to celebrate the re-naming of their Arts Building as the 'Lowry Building', yet another honour bestowed upon their best known alumni.

Michael's exhibition of his etchings at the Glossop Station Waiting Room Gallery has just closed and an exhibition of his paintings is on view at the town's Labour Club until 26th December. The Labour Club is a wonderful local institution with a proud history, unaffiliated to any political party, it describes itself as a 'home to people who share a progressive outlook on life'.
